So many households have so much unnecessary stuff and rarely have the time to deal with it. This situation raises stress levels and frustrations and can turn our homes into unhealthy environments. One of the big reasons that people give up organizing and un-cluttering is because of the difficult emotions that can arise when deciding which items to keep and which to dispose of. Read on for some insight into these feelings and tips on how to master them.
Sometimes letting go of items means that we are letting go of bigger things as well.
- Getting rid of those pants that have not fit in years means we have to accept that our current shape is not going anywhere.
- Donating those nice books that we never did get to read means accepting that we do not have the time in our lifestyle to explore everything
- If something fancy and expensive needs to go it means we are going to have to admit that we made a poor choice buying it
- Eliminating something that was handed down from a loved one that is no longer with us means dealing with the grief from their passing on.
Other times letting go may mean we need to look at the reasons we hang onto things
- If a loved one passes on or a marriage ends, getting rid of items attached to these situations may make us feel guilty and bring up the thought that we are betraying these people.
- If our upbringing stressed 'waste not, want not' we may feel huge amounts of guilt for getting rid of anything that is still good or useful, even if it is not useful to us.
- Giving away supplies for a hobby we never did get around to might make us feel like we are losing some of our dreams as well.
There is no instant fix for any of these situations but with some understanding we can work through these emotions and make ourselves healthier at the same time we improve our environment. We need to recognize our feelings learn to let go emotionally. Clutter can provide to be a barrier between us and reality and dealing with it can make us better stronger people.
